What are ‘sections’?

Sections are journeys between 2 stations, but not the whole way.
For example, Mariembourg-Nismes or Nismes-Olloy.

Do we really need to arrive an hour early?

The times given are those of the train’s departure. We recommend arriving 1 hour early, so that you can visit the ticket office, the souvenir store or have a drink.
As the Mariembourg site is open to the public, you can also wander around the rotunda (locomotive shed), discover the water pump, the coal store and the exterior of the water tower.

Are all trains steam-powered?

No, we also run railcars and diesel locomotives. Please refer to the color code of the day to find out the type of traction and departure time.
What are the differences between a steam train, a diesel train and a railcar?
A steam train is pulled by a steam locomotive. The train consists of at least one locomotive and passenger carriages. A railcar is a self-propelled rail vehicle, so there is no locomotive. Passengers travel in the same vehicle as the driver.
When the advertised traction mode is a diesel locomotive, it is the same composition as the steam train. Only the locomotive is different, using diesel power to pull the train.

How do I read the timetables?

The timetables are available in 3 color codes and determine the day’s schedules and traction modes. The yellow timetable is dedicated to a day entirely reserved for railcars. The green day has 2 railcar departures and 1 steam locomotive. The blue schedule is dedicated to 2 steam locomotive departures and 1 diesel locomotive departure. Please note that when a steam train is scheduled, the main departure is at 2.20pm. For morning or late afternoon departures, please refer to the color code.

How long does the trip last?

A one-way trip by steam train takes 40 minutes, and 30 minutes by railcar. For the return trip and a visit to the museum in Treignes, allow around 2h30.

What does the trip involve? Is it a round trip?

The basic fare offers a round trip between Mariembourg and Treignes, passing through Nismes, Olloy-sur-Viroin and Vierves. You’ll discover the 3 Valleys region along waterways, forests and meadows.
Not all our trains are steam-powered, so check the timetable (color code).

Where can I buy my tickets?

You can book and pick up your tickets online at www.cfv3v.eu. This guarantees access to our facilities. Without a reservation, we cannot guarantee full access to our attractions, depending on the number of visitors and the sanitary protocol in force.
On site, the Welcome Centers are equipped with a ticket office where you can buy your tickets for the trains at Mariembourg and for the museum at Treignes.

Do I need to make a reservation? Is it compulsory?

Reservations guarantee your place on board. Depending on the number of passengers and the health protocols to be respected, trains fill up very quickly, several days in advance. By coming without a reservation, you accept the risk of not being able to board.

What’s included in the ticket price?

Train tickets include a round trip between Mariembourg and Treignes. Museum admission is not included, but can be purchased separately. For a combined “Train+Museum” ticket, the ticket includes, as the name suggests, the round trip between Mariembourg and Treignes, as well as free admission to the museum.
